CORK FLOOR TILES

Cork tiles form a warm, comfortable, durable, quiet floor covering for any area of the home. The surface can be re-coated after several years to restore that new look.

HOW TO INSTALL:

Preparation is the key to any successful flooring installation. Reasonable time should be spent to ensure that your subfloor is prepared well. Concrete floors should be smooth, level, dry and clean. If need be use a levelling compound to make the floor smooth and level. A concrete moisture test should be carried out to make sure the floor is dry (below 5.5%). Timber and chipboard floors should be sheeted with flooring masonite from the timber department and anchored with the proper nails or staples.

The important points to remember are:

  1. Once the subfloor is prepared, establish your starting point by laying out two rows of loose tiles, forming a cross in the middle of the room. Adjust their position to give equal gaps at the walls, trying to avoid thin slivers. Mark along both rows with chalk or a string line, laying will begin at the centre.
  2. Starting at the middle spread enough adhesive, using the glue spreader provided for 4 or 5 tiles at a time. Lay tiles in each direction along the marked lines to form a cross, dividing the room into four sections. Slide the tiles into place pushing them well into the wet glue. Continue laying until the four sections are complete, leaving the “cut ins” until last.
  3. To mark tiles for cutting, place a tile directly over the glued down tile, then place another tile directly over this, but pushed forward so that the from edge is hard against the wall. The back edge of the top tile provides the line along which to cut using a sharp Stanley Knife and straight edge if necessary. Your floor should be completely covered with cork now and ready for sanding and coating.
  4. Allow 12 hours for the glue to dry, then sand the floor thoroughly using a rotary polisher/sander from the Hire department. Fill any gaps with Timbermate Teak filler and vacuum thoroughly. Apply three coats of Premium Floor Finish with a Mohair roller, sanding lightly with fine paper between coats. Avoid heavy traffic for three days and final coat to allow coating to cure properly.

We trust you enjoy your Cork Floor for many years to come.
